Wood Finishing 101

Here are some questions you might want to ask yourself before you select a wood finish.

What purpose will this furniture serve? Will it be in contact with a lot of moisture, solvents or food? Will it be in a place where scrapes or dents can occur?

What would you like the final product to look like? Do you want a natural look or a more specific color?

Do you want the finish to alter the color of the wood or do you want to minimize any color changes in the wood?

Are you sensitive to certain finishes?

Is the area where your furniture will be placed near any fires?

Will this furniture be near any water?
